The Maritime Archaeology Society Esbjerg (MASE) is a society made for and run by the students of Maritime Archaeology at the University of Southern Denmark. The main goal is to organize events that allow the students to gain knowledge or experience relating to archaeology. This includes trips to museums, tours of shipbuilding workshops, activities for public involvement and even independent archaeological projects. One of the highlighting events of the past year was a collaboration with the Fisheries Museum in Esbjerg that encouraged the public to bring in any archaeological finds they may have for the students to analyze and record. It was a successful event that demonstrated the people’s interest for their culture and the importance of working together to preserve it. This upcoming school semester will see a welcoming tour of Ribe for the new students, a sailing trip on a reconstructed Viking ship in Roskilde and hopefully another public event for artefact recording with the Fisheries Museum.
